Accessible travel through Dubai: organise assistance across the whole journey

Use Dubai Airports’ official assistance resources to plan the handoffs between airline, terminal and onward transport.

An accessible airport journey is a chain of arrangements. The flight booking, arrival at the terminal, movement through the airport and onward transport each need to work together. Dubai Airports publishes assistance information for DXB and DWC, giving travellers and families a starting point for turning individual needs into a more predictable plan.

Start with the traveller’s own needs

Discuss what support would make the journey manageable. Mobility, communication, sensory conditions and unfamiliar procedures can create different requirements. Record preferences in practical terms: what the traveller can manage independently, where assistance is wanted and how staff should communicate.

Dubai Airports’ official information describes support for visible and non-visible disabilities. It also directs travellers to contact their airline for additional assistance. Do that early enough for the airline to explain its process and confirm the arrangements relevant to the actual itinerary.

Check the airport and terminal

Do not treat every service as available in every location. The airport’s DXB for All material describes features such as Sunflower identification, travel-planning resources and an Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2. Confirm which facilities fit your departure or arrival terminal.

Ask how the handoff works: where assistance begins, whom to approach and what happens if a connection or flight detail changes. Keep the airline’s response and reference details available to the traveller and any accompanying person. A clear meeting point is more useful than a general expectation that someone will be nearby.

Include the journey outside the terminal

Arrange a vehicle that suits the passenger and any mobility equipment. Establish whether the vehicle can carry the required items and where collection is permitted. Leave time for the transfer between the airport assistance process and the driver or family member meeting the flight.

For a first visit or relocation, make the destination equally clear. Confirm the building entrance, lift access and the distance from drop-off to the room or apartment. The usefulness of assistance at the airport is strengthened when the accommodation is ready to receive the person comfortably.

Prepare a compact travel record

Keep one short record containing flight details, assistance confirmations, contact information and the agreed meeting arrangements. Share only the information needed with each provider. Where documentation is requested, confirm the current requirement with the airline rather than relying on an old checklist.

Review the plan again when the itinerary changes. The purpose is to create understandable transitions, not to make the traveller explain everything from the beginning at each point. Dubai’s inclusive travel infrastructure gives families and visitors more options. Good preparation connects those options around the person using them, supporting a journey with greater clarity and independence.

When another person is coordinating the trip, keep the traveller involved in decisions about assistance. Agree who will speak to providers and how preferences will be communicated. A workable plan should support the individual’s choices as well as the logistics of moving between places.
