Starting a Dubai company: write the business brief before comparing licences

Prepare a clear Dubai business setup brief covering activity, customers, workspace and recurring costs.

Comparing company packages before defining the business is an easy way to optimise the wrong expense. A low advertised setup price does not tell you whether the structure fits your activity, customers or operating needs. Start with a one-page business brief.

Describe what the business will actually do

List the services or products you will sell, how customers will buy them and where the work takes place. Separate today’s activity from services you might add later. Ask the relevant licensing authority or qualified provider how those activities should be described.

Invest in Dubai provides official company-setup services and a trade-licence application route. Use these resources to establish the official starting point; do not assume a social-media package description covers the full permission your business needs.

Map customers, people and premises

Record where your customers are based, whether you will meet them at an office and which staff need a workplace. Add storage, deliveries or specialist equipment where relevant. These practical requirements often matter more than the visual appeal of an address.

Your preferred neighbourhood and the company’s operating needs should be considered together. A founder’s home, a registered business address and a working office serve different purposes. Ask which requirements apply to each rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Compare the whole first year and the renewal year

Request an itemised quotation that separates authority fees, service-provider fees, workspace, staffing-related items and optional assistance. Ask which costs recur and what changes when the company renews. Keep third-party approvals and their fees visible.

Build a conservative cash plan for the period before customer payments become predictable. Licensing is one part of the startup budget. Sales, software, rent, professional advice and operating reserves can have a larger effect on whether the business functions well.

Finish with a decision-ready brief

A useful brief contains the activity, intended customers, shareholders, staffing, premises, budget and target launch window. Note what has been confirmed and what requires professional review.

CyDubai’s business pages can help organise the initial conversation and connect workspace requirements with a property search. Confirm the engagement scope and the responsible service provider before proceeding. No setup route should be selected solely because its promotional price is the lowest.
